The results achieved during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the priorities for the next six months on which the Austrian Presidency will focus were presented during a meeting between the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and the President of the European Council Donald Tusk. Austria is expected to continue Bulgaria’s line of action in the field of security and the fight against illegal migration, competitiveness through digitization and the prospects for the countries of the Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe.
It is planned that on 13 July 2018 the Bulgarian Prime Minister will present the results of the Bulgarian Presidency before the National Assembly. Also, the government is expected to submit Bulgaria’s application for the ERM II to the EU Finance Ministers meeting on 14 July 2018. According to Dimitar Brankov, Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Association, the current situation is most favorable for this. According to a press release of the Bulgarian prime minister, Bulgaria has fulfilled all the criteria for entering the banking union and the euro zone waiting room and expects a firm date for joining.
